The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds continues to deliver surprises and format twists in its brand new episodes, with the latest instalment being a full-on musical episode!

Today's new chapter – Subspace Rhapsody – boasts 10 original songs featuring music and lyrics by Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo) and Tom Polce (Letters to Cleo, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), as an accident with an experimental quantum probability field causes everyone on the Enterprise to break uncontrollably into song.

This follows on from episode 7, Those Old Scientists, which was the long-awaited crossover with animated Star Trek series Lower Decks.

Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes recently weighed in on the crossover, saying that he loved the unpredictable improvisation of guest stars Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Tawny Newsome (Space Force) and suggesting that other Star Trek projects should have more room to experiment.

"[It] doesn’t happen a lot on Star Trek, as you probably have heard,” he told Variety. “I mean, especially in [The Next Generation] they were so strict. It was like we were doing Shakespeare or Chekhov... Maybe this will open some eyes."
